Ashraf shifts stand on local govt polls
In a shift to his party’s stand in less than 24 hours, ruling Awami League spokesperson and LGRD Minister Syed Ashraful Islam said the government has no plan to hold local bodies' election under a partisan manner.
Speaking at a programme yesterday, Ashraf hinted of bringing changes in the local government acts so that elections to institutions like city corporations, and upazila, union parishads are held under party banners to make local governance dynamic.
The minister came up with the statement while responding to a question by ruling party lawmaker Abdul Latif at the parliament this evening with Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.
