Channel i has launched a new film initiative being dubbed as a 'Bangladeshi Omnibus Film Project' with 11 talented young directors, to bring out stories themed on Dhaka. The project is titled “Iti, Tomari Dhaka”, and will have filmmaker Abu Shahed Emon serving the creative producer. The directors of the project are Nuhash Humayun, Tanvir Ahsan, Rahat Rahman, Krishnendu Chattopadhyay, Mahmudul Islam, Golam Kibria Farooki, Mir Mokarram Hossain, Rabiul Alam, Saleh Ahmed, Ahmed Shawki and Tanim Noor.
Channel i held a press conference at their premises on Thursday to make the announcement, where nine of the 11 directors were present along with Emon. Channel i MD Faridur Reza Sagar was the chief guest at the programme, while eminent filmmakers Mostofa Sarwar Farooki, Nasiruddin Yousuff, Tauquir Ahmed, Giasuddin Selim and Golam Rabbani Biplob were also present. Krishnendu Chattopadhyay and Nuhash Humayun were absent due to shooting commitments.
About the project, Abu Shahed Emon said “We have been collaborating and sharing ideas for over three months. In this project, we will see our thoughts, love and concerns about Dhaka through the eyes of these 11 filmmakers. The audience will see a spectrum of feelings on the big screen expressed by different creators.”
Faridur Reza Sagar said “These films are being made internationally, and will present Bangladeshi cinema in good light abroad. I hope the new guns will bring prosperity to our cinema.”
“The country has advanced in many ways, but I think we need a cultural revolution. Filmmakers have to take that responsibility. We don't have too many directors, and I want more young talent to come forward in filmmaking.”
