A tribute to Guru Bipin Singh by his Bangladeshi students

On the occasion of the 100th birth anniversary of Manipuri Dance Guru Bipin Singh, five Manipuri dance schools with the support of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy organised a festival from June 22-23 in the main auditorium of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. Minister of Cultural Affairs of the Government of Bangladesh, Asaduzzaman Noor, and Director General of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Liaquat Ali Lucky, will be present at the inauguration ceremony.

Several hundred dancers in Bangladesh have been practicing the dance style of Guru Bipin Singh for the last three decades. Many schools are following his style under the guidance of his wife, Guru Kalavati Devi. Bearing that in mind, the festival is a tribute to the dance maestro by his Bangladeshi students.

Guru Kalavati Devi conducted a three week- long dance workshop preceding the festival. Their daughter Smt. Bimbavati Devi will be performing on the inaugural day.The event will be attended by Dr. Sunil Kothari and Smt. Leela Venkataraman, two of the leading dance critics of India.

The participating schools are Kolpotoru (sister organization of Shadhona, Lubna Marium), Nrityam Nrittya Shilan Kendra (Tamanna Rahman), Dhrumel (Sweety Das Chowdhury), Bhabna (Samina Husain Prema), and Dhriti Nartanalaya (Warda Rihab).
