Rudhirrongini A new play in town
The house was full; the audience was set to watch Rudhirrongini -- the first production of Hritmoncho, the new repertory team in town. Three strong actors from three different generations were put together for the production -- Rokeya Rafique Baby, Azad Abul Kalam and Jyoti Sinha. Shuvashis Sinha, writer and director of the play, has been associated with Monipuri theatre. He is also the man behind the stage and music design of the production.
The drama is an anti-thesis of the social norms we find in history, set in an “anti-real way of storytelling,” according to the playwright. The protagonist of the play, a female who is vocal about her desires, crosses all tangible barriers to achieve them, but falls prey to a tragic end. Written in semi-poetic form, the play was dialogue-heavy.
The ending was slightly abrupt, compared to the flow of the entire play. However the repertory will definitely play a strong role in the theater arena. Their name says it all – Hritmoncho – and will win the hearts of the theatre goers.
Shows will continue till May 19, in the experimental hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. Special exhibition of the show will take place on May 18 and 19, at 5 pm for students and theatre workers at a special discount rate. A visit to the show would be worthwhile for all theatre lovers and enthusiasts.
