While July 30 marks International Day of Friendship, many parts of the world, including Bangladesh, celebrate this day on the first Sunday of August, which falls on August 2 this year. As the spirit of Friendship Day is still in the air and we sit at home connecting with our buddies virtually over video calls amid the ongoing pandemic, here is a list of movies about friendship that you may enjoy.


Haami (2018)

Directed by Nandita Roy and Shiboprosad Mukherjee, this film is set in a co-educational school of Kolkata. It revolves around two friends, Bhutu and Chini who belong to different socio-economic backgrounds. As their parents make a fuss regarding their affection for each other, the film brilliantly addresses the fears we face daily. Currently available on Hoichoi, Haami portrays the innocence of childhood and friendship through a good blend of humourous and emotional moments.


Smallfoot (2018)

This musical comedy narrates an unlikely tale of friendship between two different creatures who are initially scared of each other's existence. As the story progresses, you would feel connected with the characters and start appreciating the roles of friends in your life. Currently streaming on Netflix, this movie is an absolute entertainer.


Kai Po Che! (2013)

Based on Chetan Bhagat's book, The Three Mistakes of My Life, Kai Po Che! revolves around the ambitions of a trio based in Gujarat. It narrates the tales of three friends, Ishaan (Sushant Singh Rajput), Omi (Amit Sadh) and Govind (Rajkumar Rao) who set up their own sports shop and training academy. Currently streaming on Netflix, this Abishek Kapoor directorial is a beautiful story.


Someone Great (2019)

Written and directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, the Netflix movie revolves around Jenny (Gina Rodriguez), a music journalist who finally gets her dream job, and just before moving to San Francisco, she breaks up a nine-year relationship and slips into depression. Trying to overcome her sorrows, Jenny catches up with her friends for one crazy night prior to her departure. The movie is a sweet representation of female friendship, and portrays three bold characters struggling with their personal relationships, yet being there for each other.
