Masud Hasan Ujjal’s ‘Unoponchash Batash’ is a courageous film
Independent filmmaker Masud Hasan Ujjal's first full-length feature film "Unoponchash Batash" premiered yesterday. The film stars Sharlin Farzana and debutant Imitiaz Barshon in the lead roles. I attended the first show of the film at Star Cineplex in Bashundhara City.
Even though it is his debut film, Masud Hasan Ujjal has shown ample artistic skills. The musical score, acting and cinematography is spot-on, with heart touching moments in between. The moving drone shots were especially skillful.
The film critics might question the resurrection of Barshon's character in the film, but I felt that it was a courageous step in direction by Ujjal. Albert Einstein once said, "Imagination is more important than knowledge," and the film certainly took its liberties with it.
"For the last week, people have created a positive vibe on social media regarding 'Unoponchash Batash,'" said Ujjal, prior to the premiere of the film. "I was a little worried if people would show up due to the pandemic, but it makes me happy to see that they have turned up in numbers."
Former member of progressive band Meghdol and an alumnus of the Drawing and Painting Department of the Faculty of Fine Art, University of Dhaka, Ujjal is known as a true all-rounder. Besides directing, he also wrote the story, dialogue, lyrics and screenplay for the film. He also executed the art direction, photography, music direction, and even the poster and campaign design.
"If love truly lives, it never ends. After watching "Unoponchash Batash", the audience will find a feeling of emptiness," says Ujjal. "My life reflects the commitment of relationships, unconditional connections between human beings, and social responsibilities. This film is no exception of that."
"If you want to go deeper into the story, you have to watch the film from beginning to end, hopefully everyone will enjoy watching the carefully made film, and at the same time, directors will be more motivated to make good films in the country. My best wishes are with team of this film," said a filmgoer Zeaul Haque.
"It was good to see the trailer of the movie a day ago. I thought it had something good to offter. I loved it. Good luck to 'Unoponchash Batash'!" said film lover Firoz Akhtar.
The film is produced by Asif Hanif under the banner of Red October Films while Syeda Shaon is the executive producer. Bassbaba Sumon has made his playback debut with the film.
