Hailing the season of flower and love
Artistes of Chhayanaut ushered in Spring, the king of all seasons, with song renditions and dance recitals at its main auditorium on the evening of February 27.
Spring was hailed with a solo drut khayal performance set on Raga “Basant” by Chhayanaut Guru Asit Dey. Dey diffused the colours of spring through his rendition.
Several dancers, colourfully attired, performed to a Tagore song “Neel Digantey”. The performance, evoking the season of flowers, symbolised youth, grace and love. Among the featured dancers Sudeshna Swayamprabha shone bright with dance mudras with enamoured expressions.
Chhayanaut artistes danced to several live presentations of Tagore songs -- “Ore Bhai Phagun Legechhe Bon-e Bon-e”, “Aji Dokhin Duar Khola”, “Bosontey Phul Ganthlo” and “Dokhin Hawa Jago Jago” -- that were a treat for music aficionados. Mahua Manjuri Sunanda's offering of a romantic Tagore song “E Ki Labonye” inspired rapture and celebration of life while Latifun Julio rendered a Kazi Nazrul Islam composition “Elo Oi Bonantey Pagol Boshonto”. The rendition reminded one of a strong southern breeze crisscrossing the woods.
Gripping the precise mood of a ghazal-ang song “Phul Phaguner Elo Morshum” of our National Poet, Bizon Chandra Mistry beautifully performed the number while Suman Majumder presented another Nazrul song “Kuhu Kuhu Koyelia”.
Farhana Aktar Shirley fantastically performed a DL Roy song “Ayre Bosanto” at the event. The kirtan-ang song was based on a melodious Raga Khamaj.
Nadira Begum and Erfan Hossain performed two folk songs while Kalpana Anam, Elora Ahmed Shukla and Kanchan Mostafa also rendered solo songs composed by Kazi Nazrul Islam, Atul Prasad Sen and Rabindranath Tagore.
