Arms case: Hearing on charge framing against Shahed on August 27

A tribunal in Dhaka today took cognizance of the charges against Regent Group Chairman Mohammad Shahed in an arms case.
Judge KM Emrul Kayesh of the Special Tribunal-1 of Dhaka passed the order after scrutinising the case dockets and other relevant documents.
The tribunal fixed August 27 for hearing on charge framing against Shahed in the case.
The tribunal also directed jail authorities to produce him before his court on the scheduled date.
Within nine working days of taking charge, DB Inspector Md Sairul Islam -- also the investigation officer (IO) of the case -- submitted the charge sheet to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court of Dhaka on July 30, showing 13 people as prosecution witnesses.
Earlier on July 26, Shahed was shown arrested in the case after the IO submitted a petition.
The IO in the charge sheet said the charges brought against Shahed were primarily proven and he should be brought under trial.
On July 19, a team of DB found Shahed's private car in front of House no-14, Sector-11, in the city's Uttara area.
DB seized a pistol with a bullet round from the car, and later filed a case under the Arms Act against him.
Shahed was arrested on July 15 from Satkhira, when he was attempting to leave the country on a boat.
Later, he was placed on a 10-day remand in a case filed over issuing fake Covid-19 test results and charging patients for testing and treatment.
On July 26, Shahed was placed on a 38-day remand in five cases including an arms case filed with Satkhira.
On the expiry of his 10-day remand in an arms case filed with Satkhira, he was placed on a seven-day remand on August 10 in a case filed for the misappropriation of 2.71 crore from Farmers Bank Ltd.
