AL's Anupom elected MP in Tangail-8

Awami League-backed candidate Anupom Shajahan Joy has been declared elected unofficially in Tangail-8 (Sakhipur-Basail) by-polls.
The election was held on March 29.
But the results of the by-polls were not declared till yesterday because Returning Officer Syed Khurshid Anwar cancelled results of Ghechua Government Primary School polling centre in Sakhipur over allegations of irregularities.
After re-voting at the cancelled polling centre yesterday, the local election office announced the results.
Joy, son of late AL lawmaker Shawkat Momen Shajahan, has secured 73,907 votes with boat symbol and his nearest independent (rebel AL) candidate Abdul Malek Miah 73,056 votes with deer symbol.
The parliamentary seat fell vacant as Shawkat Momen died of a cardiac arrest on January 20.
