Adaption difficult without carbon cut
Awami League lawmaker Saber Hossain Chowdhury said unless developed countries drastically reduce carbon emission and provide finance and technology, least developed countries would find it hard to adapt to climate change.
He was presenting case studies on Bangladesh's climate legislation at the inauguration of a two-day 2nd GLOBE Climate Legislation Summit, attended by lawmakers from over 50 countries and hosted by Massachusetts Senator Edward Markey at the US Senate in Washington DC on Thursday.
“Time is running out and unless the world acts and acts now decisively on reduction of emissions, all our efforts will be in vain and whatever we do in future will be too little too late,” said Saber who led a three-member delegation. Talking to The Daily Star, he said to have informed of government plans to harness 10 percent of Bangladesh's electricity demand from renewable sources by 2020.
The 4th edition of the GLOBE Climate Legislation Study, and the Partnership for Climate Legislation between GLOBE, United Nations and World Bank were launched at the event.
