Accused arrested after gunfight with cops
An accused in double murder case was arrested after gunfight with police in Shikri area under Benapole Police Station of Jessore district early Friday.
The arrestee, Rafiqual Islam, 32, son of Lutfar Rahman of Mahishadanga village under the police station, was wanted in the case for killing Jubo League activists Amin and Lalon at Baroputa village on April 26.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Apurbo Hasan of Benapole Port Police Station said police launched a drive in Shikri area at around 5:00am to arrest Rafiqul.
Sensing the presence of police, notorious criminal Rafiq and his cohorts blasted at least three to four bombs and opened fire, prompting the law enforcers to retaliate by firing eight rounds of bullets, he added.
Rafiq sustained bullet injuries and was arrested on the spot while his cohorts managed to flee, the OC further said.
