Abused, she takes own life

Failing to bear with the humiliation of repeated harassment by a stalker, a girl of Class IX took her life at Katakhali in Sadar upazila of the district yesterday morning.

The deceased, Sharmin Sultana, daughter of Abdur Rouf, a Saudi Arabia expatriate, was a student of ABGM Government High School.

Family sources said local delinquent Anik Mian, 21, son of Shafi Dewan, used to harass the victim for the last few days on her way to school and home.

"Sultana returned half hour late from her private coaching yesterday morning. That time she looked sad and without talking to anyone, she fell asleep. Then I went to the local bazaar. On return to home, I found Sultana hanging," said Rahima Begum, mother to the girl.

"I want justice for the criminal responsible for my daughter's death," said Rahima in a choked voice.

Sultana was the third among the three sisters and only brother.
