7 cops suspended over Ctg custodial death
Seven policemen were suspended today over the death of a businessman in police custody in Chittagong last month.
The suspension order came after the policemen were found involved in the death of Rokonuzzaman, 45, a real estate businessman, said Harunur Rashid Hazari, a deputy commission of Chittagong Metropolitan Police.
He added that the businessman died after police arrested him in a rape case on June 19.
The suspended policemen are Panchlaish Police Station's Sub-Inspector Amir Hossain and constables Mizanur Rahman, Moslem Uddin, Khokon Mia and Akbar, Bakalia Police Station's Assistant Sub-Inspector Md Enayet Hossain and Ansar Battalion's constable Shahinur Alam.
Of them, Sub-inspector Amir and constable Moslem were arrested yesterday as evidence has been found against them in the primary investigation of the incident, the police official told our Chittagong correspondent.
Shimu Akter, wife of the deceased, had filed the murder case accusing ten people, including the seven policemen, with the court of Chittagong Metropolitan Magistrate Ahmed Sayeed on June 25.
The court ordered the deputy commissioner of Detective Branch of CMP to investigate the matter and submit a report by July 23.
