5.75kh gold seized in capital
Lawmen today arrested one person and seized 5.75 kilogram of gold worth around Tk 2.85 crore at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport and Kamalapur Railway Station in the capital.
Customs officials recovered 4.5 kilogram of gold from an unclaimed trolley bag at the airport.
An unknown passenger of a Fly Dubai flight from Dubai around 12:10pm abandoned the bag while the officials were checking the luggage at the green channel, said Customs Assistant Commissioner Shamprity Pramanik.
The passenger brought several gold bars stashing inside the rods of the trolley bag. The gold price was estimated at around Tk 2.25 crore, she added.
The officers could not arrest anyone as there was a huge crowd at that time, she said.
Meanwhile, Dhaka railway police detained Sujan alias Babar with 10 gold bars weighing over 1.25 kilogram at Kamalapur Railway Station in the morning.
Sujan, was a passenger of Turna Nishitha Express that reached the station from Chittagong around 7:45am, said Abdul Mujib, officer-in-charge of Dhaka Railway Police Station.
Acting on a tip-off, police searched Sujan's body and found the gold bars worth Tk 60 lakh from his pants’ pocket after he got down from the train, the OC said.
