49kg gold bars seized in Ctg
Customs officials recovered 420 gold bars weighing around 49 kgs from an aircraft at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chittagong last night.
The bars, abandoned under seats, could be worth about Tk 22 crore, according to customs officials. It was the highest ever gold seizure in the airport.
Airport officials started their regular search inside the Fly Dubai flight after the passengers got down. The plane landed around 8:30pm, said Mosear Rahman, assistant commissioner of the Airport Customs.
“The crewmen told us that something was lying under seats,” he said, adding that the customs officials then found those bars in cushions under a number of seats.
