4 killed as 2 buses collide
At least four people, including a teacher and her daughter, were killed and five others injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a microbus at Boroitoli on Cox's Bazar-Chittagong highway in Chakaria upazila yesterday.
All the dead were microbus passengers. They are Tahera Begum, 58, headmistress of Cox's Bazar Model High School, her daughter Tazmia Ismail, 23, their domestic help Kohinoor Aktar, 18, and driver Joynal Abedin.
Tazmia's elder brother Adnan Mahmud Rajib is also injured in the accident. But his condition is stable now.
Fayezur Rahman, sub-inspector of Chiringa police outpost, said the Cox's Bazar-bound picnic bus crashed into the microbus coming from the opposite direction at Boroitoli on the highway around 9:45am, killing Tahera and the microbus driver on the spot.
Kohinoor died on the way to Chakaria Upazila Health Complex while Tazmia and Rajib were sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital as their conditions deteriorated. Tazmia died at the CMCH around 2:30pm.
The family was going to Chittagong to fix a venue and invite relatives there for the wedding of Tazmia scheduled for January 23. Tazmia completed MBA from Brac University recently.
