37 foreigners among 42 remanded
A Dhaka court today placed 42 people, including 37 foreigners, on a two-day remand and another person on a one-day remand in a case filed for running illegal Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) business in the city.
Metropolitan Magistrate Rezaul Karim passed the order police produced them before the court seeking seven days’ remand.
Six of those remanded are Bangladeshi citizens while five Chinese nationals and the rest are Taiwanese citizens.
Earlier, members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested the 43 people, including eight females, along with huge VoIP equipment from the capital’s Uttara area Sunday night.
Later, Nayek Suberdar of Rab-1 Abu Reza Mostafa Kamal filed a case against 45 people under telecommunication act with Uttara Police Station.
Of the accused, Mohammad Faruk and Dr Lutfunnesa Samsuddin went into hiding.
