3 Shibir men held
Three activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir were detained in Satkhira while they were allegedly planning subversive acts.
Police seized a Pakistani flag, a number of Jihadi books, video cassettes and over a hundred sticks while detaining Tamim Ahmed, 24, Iqbal Hossain, 23, and Monir Hossain, 24, from the district unit office of Jamaat-e-Islami yesterday. Monir is the president of Satkhira town unit Chhatra Shibir.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Enamul Haque of Satkhira Sadar Police Station said on information , police raided the office around 3:00pm and detained the three activists of the student wing of Jamaat.
However, there were some others with them and they managed to flee sensing the presence of police, the OC said.
Seven bicycles, a motorcycle and five photo albums were also seized from the office, he added.
A sedition case has been filed against the trio, who are also accused in five other cases of torching vehicles and sabotage, according to the OC.
Meanwhile, Jamaat's Acting Secretary General Shafiqur Rahman has denounced the raid at the party office.
In a statement yesterday, he protested the raid and demanded immediate release of the detainees.
