3 kids killed in fire incidents
Three children including two siblings were burnt alive in two incidents of fire in Barisal and Madaripur districts yesterday.
Two siblings were burnt alive in a fire incident that broke out at a house in Muladi municipality area of Barisal district early yesterday, reports our correspondent.
The deceased were identified as Chandni, 5, and Hasan, 6, daughter and son of municipality employees Zakir Hossain and Rani Begum, said Muladi police.
Police and locals said the fire broke out from a lamp at the house of Zakir and Rani when they were away at their workplaces around midnight.
Their children were locked inside the house.
Police recovered the bodies and sent those to hospital morgue for autopsy in the morning.
In Madaripur, a four-month-old child was killed as a fire gutted at least 28 houses in Shibchar upazila of the district yesterday morning, reports our correspondent.
The deceased was identified as Ratna, daughter of Rajab Ali Mollah of Mohanpur village.
Locals said, the fire broke out at the house of Rajab Ali totally destroying all the 28 houses.
Ratna, who was confined to the house during the fire, was burnt to death.
Three cattle were also roasted alive in the devastating fire which was brought under control after two hours of frantic efforts.
The fire might have originated from a kitchen stove, locals said.
At least 10 families became homeless and property worth Tk 30 lakh was damaged, they said.
Away in Rangpur, a jute godown was gutted in a devastating fire at Tepamadhupur Bazar under Kaunia upazila on Monday night, reports our correspondent.
The owner of the jute godown claimed that the fire damaged jute and other property worth Tk 50 lakh.
According to firemen and witnesses, the fire originated from an unknown source at the jute godown of Anukul Chandra at around 9:30pm and soon engulfed the entire godown burning down over 2,000 maunds of jute stored there.
On information, two fire fighting units from Kaunia and Rangpur rushed to the spot and doused the flame after two hours of frantic efforts.
