BD begin brightly
Bangladesh got off to a fine start in the Group 4 Asia-Oceania Zone of the Davis Cup defeating Syria in Yangoon yesterday.
Bangladesh came from behind to beat Syria 2-1 in the opener. Shibu Lal lost to Salim Laith 2-6, 6-4, 5-7 in the first singles, but Amol Roy restored parity for Bangladesh beating Ibrahim Abraham 6-1, 6-2 in the second.
In the doubles, the Bangladesh duo paired to beat Laith and Sheet Yashar 6-2, 7-6.
In the day's other matches, United Arab Emirates beat Turkmenistan 3-0, Singapore defeated Iraq 3-0 and Oman outplayed hosts Myanmar 3-0.
