BDR, BSF meet on Feb 1

The deputy director general (DDG) level meeting between Bangladesh Rifles (BDR)

and Indian Border Security Force (BSF) will begin at Parjatan motel in Rangpur from

February 1.

The authorities have completed all formalities and made necessary arrangements for holding the five--day meeting.

According to senior government officials, DDG of BDR Brigadier General Golam Rabbani will lead the Bangladesh side. He will be assisted by sector commanders of Khulna, Kushtia, Rajshahi, Dianjpur and Rangpur and other senior BDR officials.

The 13-member BSF side will be headed by its Inspector General (IG) of the north Bengal frontier SK Dutta. The BSF delegation will include two deputy inspectors general (DIGs), eight sector commanders and two senior BSF officials.

The BDR officials are expected to arrive at Rangpur on Janury 31 and the BSF officials will reach the meeting venue on February 1 through Burimari check post in Lalmonirhat, official sources said.

Issues like push-in, killing of innocent Bangladeshis by the BSF, border crimes, enclave problems, frequent firing by the Indian border guards, cross--border smuggling, drug trafficking, construction of roads, embankments, culverts and other structures along the border form Satkhira to Kurigram may come up for discussion in the meeting.
