Kanchi seer out of jail
Kanchi Shankaracharya Jayendra Saraswati was released from the jail exactly two months after he was arrested in connection with a murder case.
The seer walked into the waiting yellow van of the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam amidst tight security and headed for Kalavai, about 40 kms from Kancheepuram, as he has been barred from the Supreme Court from going to the Kanchi Mutt.
A police vehicle followed his van as the smiling Jayendra waived to his admirers and cameramen without making any comments to waiting newspersons.
Many of the devotees fell at his feet as he waded through the crowd to go to his vehicle.
Earlier, even before being released from Vellore prison after obtaining bail in the Sankararaman murder case, Kanchi Seer Jayendra Saraswati has moved the Principal Sessions Court in Chennai for bail, apprehending arrest in a third case.
The case relates to an assault on a temple priest Tirukoshtiyur Mahadevan in the city about two years ago.
The seer is anticipating arrest under IPC sections 424 (dishonest or fraudulent removal or concealment of property) and 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder).
The Kanchi seer would stay at Kalavai Mutt, 40 km from Kancheepuram, after his release, where the Paramacharya of Kanchi Mutt late Chandrasekerendra Saraswati often stayed, Manager of Kanchi Mutt Pollachi Mahadevan said.
The Supreme Court granted him bail in the case relating to the murder of a Kanchipuram temple official A Sankararaman in September last year but with the condition that he would not visit the Kanchi Mutt till investigations into the Sankararaman murder case are over.
