Letters to the Editor

Cricket

This is in response to the letter of Nayeem Islam from Aga Khan School published in The Daily Star on 24 December. From his letter it appears to me that the writer is very much angry about our cricket team. I was also disappointed after some poor performance by the Tigers in recent times. But that doesn't mean that we should stop watching cricket. Nayeem Islam has also written that our players have no talent, nor have they any skills to play cricket. If that is true, then how could we become ICC Trophy champions, how could we beat Pakistan?

Moreover, we shouldn't forget that this is the only sport which has given us name and fame internationally. If our neighbouring countries can dominate the cricket world than why not we? If Ashraful can score more than 150 runs in an innings against the mighty Indian side , then how can I believe that our players have no talent or skill? Definitely, we have enough talented cricketers in our country and if we keep faith in them, I believe that our boys will not let us down. Sooner or later the Tigers will prove their worth. We should inspire and motivate them for good results.
