NBR directs officials not to harass taxpayers
The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has directed its officials not to harass taxpayers when they submit income tax returns.
The NBR has issued a circular to this effect early this week, officials said.
The board in its circular said the tax officials have to be cautious so that the taxpayers do not face any problem while submitting tax returns.
Tax officials cannot refuse to accept any tax returns, the circular stated, adding that the officials have to give income tax returns received letter to the taxpayers.
It said stern action will be taken against officials who violate the order.
"We issued the circular to make income tax return submission free from any hassles," AS Jahir Muhammad, member (Income Tax Policy) of NBR, told The Daily Star.
