Pichchi Hannan confesses about SI murder
Pichchi Hannan, one of the 23 top listed criminals, yesterday in a confessional statement to a magistrate said one of his accomplices Anai killed Sub-Inspector (SI) Humayun Kabir during a shoot-out with police on June 3, 2003.
Detective Branch (DB) of police yesterday produced Hannan before Metropolitan Magistrate Jahangir Alam at 11:00am. It was the eighth day of his 10-day remand in Humayun Kabir murder case.
Magistrate Jahangir Alam recorded the statement for three hours and later placed him on another 10 days' remand. The case was filed with Uttara Police Station on June 23,2004 on charge of attempting to kill policemen.
Hannan said he and his henchmen used to frequent a room of National Archives in Agargaon at night to meet and take liquor and drugs. On June 3, 2003, during such a meeting, when his accomplices went out to buy meal from a nearby shop at around 11:00pm, policemen, tipped off, ringed the area.
As Anai and four others opened fire on the policemen to escape arrest, SI Humayun and Amiir Hamza alias Hamzu, 34, died on the spot, he said.
Hannan said he did not take part in the shootout but still managed to evade capture.
Syed Ainul Hoq, who was arrested from the scene, gave a confessional statement to court on June 7 last year linking Hannan and five others to the June 3 shoot-out.
