Land grabbers
I am a victim of land grabbing and I wish to raise my concern with the good people of Bangladesh today as I have exhausted all other means without any redress.
Sadly, I am now convinced that there is no law and order or property rights in Bangladesh. As your readers will be aware these are the two vital ingredients for any nation to succeed. It's disgraceful. In our country money and political clout buys you everything. What a shame!
I do not say this lightly. I live in London but have some property in our village in Sylhet which land grabbers constantly abuse (have done for a decade, playing cat and mouse) by forcefully trespassing my land and destroying its ascetic, market and emotional value.
Local political cohorts and others eagerly collude with village people who can bribe them to do anything to anyone's property. Is this democracy? Is this justice? I don't think so. Is this what millions died for?
The administration , the police, the local chairman are all at it. Everything sells for a price.
Bangladesh foreign missions do not fare any better as far as advising or helping residents living abroad is concerned.
Someone in the government should seriously look into this matter forthwith for the sake of justice. In my personal experience this problem is very much prevalent in greater Sylhet region and it calls for urgent remedial action by the government.
