2 kids killed as AL, BNP men clash
Two schoolboys were killed and 10 people injured in a clash between Awami League and BNP activists at Deopara village in Laxmipur Sadar on Monday night.
The deceased were identified as Rabiul Islam Shimul, 14, a class VIII student of Pratapganj High School and Farhad Hossain, 16, a class X student of the school.
The clash ensued around 10:30pm when supporters of AL-backed Nasir group and BNP-backed Jisan group got engaged in an altercation over establishing supremacy in Chandraganj Bazar. Both groups exchanged several gunshots during the clash that left Shimul dead on the spot and 10 people injured, five of them bullet-hit.
On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control, said Rakib Ul Hossain, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station.
The injured were admitted to Laxmipur Sadar Hospital where Farhad succumbed to his injures around 11:30pm.
Later, activists of Nasir group set fire to the houses of BNP leaders Ali Karim and Tofael Ahmed in the locality. Firefighters put out the blaze after an hour of hectic effort.
Additional police forces have been deployed in the area to keep the situation under control.
