18 rescued while being trafficked to India
Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) rescued 18 people while they were being trafficked to India through Putkhali border early yesterday.
Shamsur Rahman, in-charge of Putkhali BGB camp, said the border guards, acting on a tip-off, conducted a drive in the area and rescued eight women, six men and four children while they were going to India illegally.
All the victims hail from Narail district. BGB sources said the victims told them that a gang of traffickers brought them to Putkhali from different areas of Narail.
They took money from the victims and were sending them to India, promising good jobs there.
BGB men could not arrest any of the gang members as they fled the scene, sensing the presence of the border guards.
The rescued people were later handed over to Benapole Port Police Station. A case was filed in this connection.
