10kg gold seized at Dhaka airport
Customs intelligence officials seized gold bars weighing around 10 kilogrammes and detained two people in this connection at Hazrat Shajalal International Airport in the capital today.
Moinul Khan, director general of the custom intelligence at the airport, said they detained Mohammad Iqbal along with 50 gold bars when he was passing through the green channel at 2:30am.
Iqbal landed at the airport from Dubai by a Qatar Airlines flight in the early hours today, the official said.
The market value of the seized gold bars weighing 5.83kg was estimated Tk 2.91 crore, Monirul said.
In another drive, a team of Dhaka Custom House intercepted Amirul Islam, a passenger of Malaysian Airlines, when he was going out of the airport after completing all formalities, Bangla daily Prothom Alo adds.
The officials found gold bars weighing 4.4kg worth about Tk 1.75 crore from the shopping bag he was carrying with him, said Sampriti Paramanik, assistant commissioner of Dhaka Custom House.
