The University of Chittagong (CU) has introduce e-car service on campus to ease student travel and reduce dependence on rickshaws, which have long been accused of overcharging.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Yahya Akhter inaugurated three pairs of e-cars at 10:00am today.

Pro-Vice-Chancellor (academic) Professor Shamim Uddin, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (administration) Professor Kamal Uddin, Registrar Professor Saiful Islam and several faculty members were also present at the occasion.

The fare will range between Tk 5 and Tk 15, depending on distance.

Students expressed relief, saying the initiative addresses a longstanding demand.

Abdullah Al Manun, a student of economics (2021–22 session), said, "Our demand for a circular bus service has been ignored for years. With such a large campus, we spent a significant amount daily on rickshaw fares. The e-car service finally frees us from that burden."

Echoing similar views, Sumrat, a Bangla department student of the 2020–21 session, said, "Local rickshaw-pullers have long exploited us by charging arbitrary fares. Now they will no longer have the chance to do so."

VC Yahya Akhter said, "Through joint efforts, we have finally been able to introduce e-cars on campus. This will reduce the hassle of rickshaw fares and help students move comfortably. It will also ensure timely attendance in classes. We seek the cooperation of all students to make this initiative successful."
