Victims of political harassment cases filed between January 6, 2009 to August 5, 2024 can directly apply to the solicitor's office of the law ministry for the withdrawal of their cases.

The decision was made in order to accelerate the ongoing process of withdrawing political harassment cases, a law ministry press release said today.

It stated that certified copies of the case and charge sheet, if applicable, must be submitted with the application.

Dubious cases will only hamper justice

The decision was made at the 11th meeting of the ministry-level committee formed to withdraw political harassment cases. The meeting was held today at the Secretariat.

At today's meeting, chaired by Law Adviser Asif Nazrul, the withdrawal of 724 more cases was recommended. In previous meetings, the committee recommended the withdrawal of 7,570 cases. As a result, the committee has now recommended the withdrawal of a total of 8,294 political harassment cases.

The committee also decided to gradually withdraw all political harassment cases filed between January 6, 2009 and August 5, 2024, the press release added.
