Kuwaiti interior ministry investigating human traffickers
Kuwait's interior ministry has started opening files of three major companies to investigate suspicions of human trafficking of some 4,000 foreign workers, mostly Bangladeshis.
A report by the Arab Times says the three companies, which have many government contracts in various ministries, specialise in bringing in Bangladeshi workers in exchange for a huge amount of money.
"The competent security services in the Ministry of Interior have filtered files of more than 100 companies since the announcement by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anas Al-Saleh to open the file of residence permits and hold those who are involved in it accountable," the daily reported on May 30, quoting sources.
Kuwait's interior ministry referred the files of the companies to the public prosecution after searching, investigating them and collecting information having evidence of their involvement in this criminal activity.
Arab Times sources indicated that those companies obtained huge sums of money from poor Bangladeshi workers. However, most of their salaries do not exceed 70 dinars.
The sources revealed that the officials of the companies, despite receiving huge amounts for bringing in the workers, exploited the workers by not paying full monthly salaries to the migrants.
