BSF pushes back 40 through Moulvibazar, Habiganj

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has detained 40 Bangladeshi nationals today through border areas in Moulvibazar and Habiganj

In Moulvibazar, BGB detained 21 individuals around 7:45am as they were allegedly attempting to enter the country illegally from India through the Moterbol border area of Kamalganj upazila.

BGB-46 Battalion Commander Lt Col ASM Zakaria confirmed the detentions and said, "The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) pushed the group across the border. After detaining them, BGB verified their identities and confirmed that all of them were Bangladeshi citizens hailing from different villages in Kurigram district."

Among those detained were seven men, six women, and eight children.

Zakaria said the individuals will be handed over to Kamalganj Police Station for legal action.

Speaking to reporters, the station's officer-in-charge (OC) Syed Iftekhar Hossain said, "The detainees have been officially handed over to us. Necessary legal steps will be taken after completing formalities."In Habiganj, BSF has pushed 19 people into Chunarughat in Habiganj.

They were pushed through the Kalenga border of the upazila this morning.

Zakaria Ibne Qadir, in-charge of Kalenga BGB camp-55, said that around 7:30 am, the BSF sent the 19 people across the border and into Bangladeshi territory.

They have been kept in Kalenga BOP.

He further said that details of those being pushed in are being verified.

"It is learnt that all of them used to work as labourers in brick kilns in India," he added.

According to BGB, India has pushed in a total of 711 people through the border points in Khagrachari, Kurigram, Sylhet, Moulvibazar, Dinajpur, Thakurgaon, Panchagarh, Lalmonirhat, Chuadanga, Jhenaidah, Comilla, and Feni.

In addition, 78 people have been pushed in through the remote Mandarbaria area of the Sundarbans forest.
