Live-action Assassin’s Creed series in the works from Netflix

Netflix is teaming up with game publisher Ubisoft to work on developing a live-action TV series based on the Assassin's Creed games.

The TV series is part of a deal between Netflix and Ubisoft to develop a series of content -- including at least one live-action show with an animated series on the cards as well -- based on the hit video-game franchise.

This, however, is not the first attempt to bring the Assassin's Creed series to the screens. An official film titled simply Assassin's Creed was released in 2016 starring Michael Fassbender, Marion Cotillard and Jeremy Irons, among others, and although the movie didn't see commercial success, the story is still considered part of the canon.

"We're thrilled to create an 'Assassin's Creed' series with Netflix and we look forward to developing the next saga in the 'Assassin's Creed' universe," said Jason Altman, the head of Ubisoft Film and Television.

Assassin's Creed was first released in 2007 and became an instant hit with gamers all over the world. The open-world game series explored the war between two rival groups of secret societies set in the backdrop of true historical events.

The 12th instalment in the series, Assassin's Creed Valhalla, is set to release this November 10th.
