Use CSR fund for upscaling skill development Speakers emphasise at CSR Dialogue: Sylhet
Speakers at an online discussion recommended CSR initiatives provide training to young people so that they can equip themselves with the required skills and contribute to the growth of the country.
The event titled 'CSR Dialogue: Sylhet' was held on September 17, 2022. It was part of a joint initiative of The Daily Star and CSR Window known as "A Better Tomorrow: CSR Summit and Awards". The annual nationwide programme aims to create dialogues for future development and sustainability solutions and recognise corporations for their innovative and world-class CSR initiatives, social projects and programmes implemented for sustainable impacts on society.
Magfi Reza Siddique, the founder of Daahuk, spoke about his initiative of developing the Tanguar Haor as an attractive tourist location. Daahuk has provided training to local people in Sunamganj on various aspects of tourism. He pointed out the lack of investment to support local tourism initiatives and said, " if only Tk 3000 can be invested in each local boat it will significantly improve the services provided by these water transports." This investment must be interest-free so that the locals don't face any financial burden.
Afser Nurul, Head of Corporate Brand, PRAN-RFL Group, emphasised reducing overcrowding in tourist spots and making tourists aware of sustainable tourism which minimises the negative impacts of tourism on the environment.
Pir Fazlur Rahman Misbah, Member of Parliament from Sunamganj-4, highlighted the importance of developing a comprehensive tourism system that will promote tourism without harming the biodiversity of the Tanguar Haor. He also urged CSR initiatives to provide training to the local people and invest in the development of fish and agricultural resources in the area.
Md. Kois Ahmed, Executive Director of Society for Sylhet Resource Advancement Community, suggested CSR initiative work in partnership with the government to upscale skill development programmes across the country, and, thus, help reduce the unemployment rate. Special training programmes should be designed for persons with disabilities, he added.
Natasha Israt Kabir, President of BRIDGE Foundation, spoke about her initiative of developing an app to provide mental health support. It will include special features for persons with disabilities.
Praising Natasha's project, Md. Saifullah Al Azad, Deputy Manager of CSR initiatives, Olympic Industries Ltd. said, "this is a sustainable initiative. This will not only help people who are suffering from mental disorders but also potential investors who want to connect with them."
The online session was moderated by Ahsan Rony, Co-Founder of CSR Window.
