Nerdiz.com – Bangladesh’s first Virtual Reality Educational Platform

Pradeepta Kumar Saha conceived the idea of a virtual reality based education program in 2016 to assist the education sector. "I realized that I was a visual learner, when I performed surprisingly well in a test conducted after a University trip to Lalbagh, where I had experienced the location and could relate better to the guide's narration" he shared. Thus, in an attempt to help students like him, he started working on VR education.
Three years ago, the concept of virtual reality not familiar to the general masses of the country. Determined to bring his dreams into the light of reality, Pradeepta started taking lessons from Youtube on creating virtual reality content. "Before this, I had no experience of working with IT. It took me around six months self-learn everything" he added. Later Sagar Mozumder, the current COO of the company, joined the cause. Currently, the team consists of 13 students from different universities working to deliver the best content through VR. They were one of the top thirteen start-ups at Banglalink Incubator and GP Accelerator, and the winner of Centre of Entrepreneurship at BRAC University.
Talking about the initial challenges faced by the budding company, the team revealed that making people believe in them was the key hindrance. Apart from that, building a community of like-minded people, and teamwork to reach a common goal of creating experiential learning was another major obstacle. They thus began operations by surveying students from good social backgrounds about their unfulfilled necessities. In the next phase, Teach for BD asked for the inclusion of underprivileged students. They have signed a MoU with 'It's Humanity Foundation', where they deliver VR content across six schools for regular classes.
Project 'Rupantor' is another sponsor-based campaign they would run to conduct VR sessions for underprivileged children. "This is a continuous process and we shall do regular follow ups to ensure these children receive prolonged exposure to the content", added Pradeepta. Through this, the team intends to reach out to 100 schools by launching this campaign.
Nerdiz.com is now selling subscriptions to schools where they have aligned all curriculum into one common line reducing barriers. Keeping in mind the vast technological development in the fourth industrial revolution, they wish to serve corporates to finance their other projects. They also work in factory modelling, provide marketing solutions and deliver activation experiences. On being asked what makes them work so selflessly, Sagar mentioned that the smiles on the faces of the children motivates them. "The fact that we had a positive impact on the lives of these children has driven the formation of Rupantor," added Pradeepta. Furthermore, with the exposure to VR, these children have grown a new vision towards the world around them, as they get to know of more places and are no longer restricted to imagining things within their deprived surroundings. Till now they have impacted more than 2500 children through VR education.
Nerdiz.com are also in conversation with Chittagong Grammar School, American International School Dhaka, Aga Khan, Scholastica and International School Dhaka to name a few. The deals are all subscription based, and at times customized. In the next few years they dream of seeing Nerdiz.com as the biggest Edu-tech company, that will create more opportunities for providing skill development content.
