Why 35,000 migrant workers are unable to return to work
Last May, after the spike in Covid-19 cases, the UAE put a ban on flights from Bangladesh.
Three months later, in August, the ban was lifted. But 30,000-35,000 migrant workers are unable to return to work in the UAE.
The UAE had said that rapid RT-PCR test must be conducted six hours before the flight for passengers travelling to the country. So far, however, the government has been unable to implement this facility in any airport in Bangladesh.
In Straight from Star Newsroom, Debjani Shyama discusses the installation of rapid RT-PCR labs in Bangladesh airports with The Daily Star's senior reporter Rashidul Hasan.
