Is the digital birth registration process online also infested with brokers?
From the enrolment in educational institutions, registration for secondary school certificate exams, applying for passport and driving license -- a total of 18 citizen services now require digital birth registration. The government has practically made the previous 16-digit birth certificate number and replaced it with a new 17-digit birth certificate number which has to be obtained online.
But the process, along with other birth certificate related processes, is appearing to the citizens as a great maze of complex systems and syndicates of brokers are present in practically every step.
Are these barriers in the registration process fabricated to aid these syndicates? Why exactly the online registration made mandatory? Is forcing the people to acquire the new number while the authority itself remains inefficient ethical?
In Straight from Star Newsroom, Mohammad Jamil Khan discusses the hassle in birth certificate-related processes with The Daily Star Reporter Md Shahnawaz Khan Chandan.
