U-19s win opening game of Bangamata Gold Cup

Bangladesh U-19 women’s team defeated UAE women’s side by 2-0 in the opening game of the Bangamata U- 19 Women's International Gold Cup at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka.

Goals from Sirat Jahan Shopna and Krishna Rani Sarkar sealed victory for Bangladesh. Shopna found the net in the 12th minute after collecting a brilliant cross from Mishrat Jahan Mousumi. It was not a bright start for the hosts but they dominated proceedings as the match wore on. The team will however be ruing missed chances having taken 33 shots on goal but finding the net just twice.

Krishna doubled the lead in the 29th minute by converting a header to get Bangladesh off to a solid start in the tournament. Bangladesh have been pitted in Group B, which also features Kyrgyzstan while Group A features Mongolia, Tajikistan and Laos.

The top two teams from each group will play in the semifinals, scheduled for April 29 and 30, before the final on May 3 at the same venue.
