BCB, Bogura stadium renew ties

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has decided to re-establish its association with the Shaheed Chandu Stadium in Bogura after a meeting with officials of the National Sports Council and Bogura District Sports Association in Dhaka yesterday, Bogura District Commissioner Sailful Islam confirmed The Daily Star.

The BCB had decided to cut ties with the stadium in March, citing non-cooperation from the district's local sports bodies and organisers.

However, the meeting between the stakeholders managed to sort out the issues and in fruition, the BCB is set to resume their cricketing activities in the stadium from today, BCB Finance Committee chairman Ismail Haider Mallick informed reporters yesterday.

"BCB is taking over the stadium which will remain as it is. Proceedings will begin tomorrow. We will have to attend to it after bringing it under our jurisdiction. Then the Grounds Committee will decide on which games would be played there," Mallick said.

Mahbub Anam, the BCB Grounds Committee chairman, walked along the same lines.

"First of all, there is no issue with hotels now. The hotels in Bogura are completely prepared for international cricket. We want to fix the dressing rooms, indoor facilities and other infrastructure so that we can arrange international matches in the stadium … We have to get it sanctioned by the ICC again."
