‘There is only one Shakib’
Bangladesh T20 captain Mahmudullah Riyad led his side Chattogram Challengers to their second win in this new season of the BPL and contributed with a tight bowling effort when the other bowlers were going for runs against Rangpur Rangers today. When compared with ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan during a press conference, he said that there is only one like Shakib in every generation and it is not right to make a comparison.
"It will not be right to compare myself to Shakib," Riyad said at a press conference after the match. Riyad bowled four overs and gave away 17 while also taking a wicket. All the other bowlers in his side went for over eight an over and his economy rate of 4.25 was crucial to the win.
"It is a difficult thing to find a Shakib in one generation. There is only one Shakib and we know how capable he is with his cricketing skill and brain skill. I will try to make contributions like him with the ball, it will make me happy to be able to do that," Riyad said.
Mahmudullah was thrust into the hotseat of the T20 captain just a day ahead of the team's departure for India following ICC's ban on Shakib. The team won their first-ever T20I fixture against India in the first T20 at Delhi but could not clinch the series with defeats in the final two matches. Handed the captaincy on an emergency basis, Riyad said he was not yet sure about dealing with the captaincy role but he will try his level best to do well.
"Not sure about my captaincy hundred percent. If given the responsibility, I will give my hundred percent. I took the responsibility in the last series. If I get it in the next series, I will try to find out the deficiencies and play proper cricket. We played well in the last series against India although we couldn't win the T20 series," he said.
