Talks ongoing to host WI as per FTP, says BCB CEO
With the Sri Lanka series scrapped due to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) being unable to agree to the quarantine protocols suggested by host nation Sri Lanka, the home series against West Indies presents Bangladesh's next opportunity for international cricket. BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury today informed that talks are ongoing with West Indies.
"Till now everything going on as per the FTP schedule and talks are ongoing. They asked for some information and we have provided them," Nizamuddin informed.
While cricket has returned to several countries, so far Bangladesh are yet to get back to any manner of competitive cricket. That is however going to change with the BCB-arranged three-team tournament on October 11. The practice tournament will allow BCB to see how to bring cricket back safely amidst the pandemic.
"We are trying to get back to cricket and acting accordingly. We are going step by step and as part of that process we arranged for the BCB President's Cup," he said about the three-team tournament. "The board has plans to organize another tournament and after that we will plan the other tournaments (domestic) and also the international series we will host," he added.
"This (the start of the three-team tournament) is a message that we are trying to gradually return cricket. If we are successful then it would be good for all the game's stakeholders," Nizamuddin said.
Sri Lanka were supposed to tour Bangladesh this year for three ODIs but the fate of that series too now depends on how successfully BCB can reintroduce cricket amidst the pandemic.
