Simmons sees advantage in Tigers picking more pacers
Bangladesh have picked six seamers in the squad for the upcoming ODI series against the West Indies and Windies coach Phil Simmons reiterated that there maybe an advantage to the visiting side if the Tigers play more seamers.
Traditionally, Bangladesh have favoured spinners against visiting teams however, the ODI team over recent years has always focused on playing pacers. Windies coach was wary of the spin threat but was of the opinion that Bangladesh playing more pacers as part of their long-term planning could play into West Indies' hand.
"I think they still have their four main spinners. Whether they use two or three fast bowlers will be something they might be trying to change into. It would mean that we get better much better pitches to play on in terms of batting wickets. So, you never know, it would be a good thing but the four spinners will be there," Simmons said today.
However, knowing Bangladesh's perseverance in being a spin threat, Windies coach was more keen on the fact that being underdogs can inspire his side in what will be his team's first series of the ODI Super League.
"I am hoping that whether they play four spinners or five spinners, it plays into our hands and it plays a role in how we think about it because we seem to be the underdogs," he concluded.
