Sheikh Jamal clinch DPL T20 title
Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club clinched the maiden Dhaka Premier League T20 tournament, defeating Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club by 24 runs at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur today.
Sheikh Jamal won the toss and elected to bat first and were given a solid start by two openers Fardeen Hasan and Imtiaz Hossain. Fardeen fell in the eighth over but Imtiaz went on to hit a half ton during his 44-ball 56 with four fours and two sixes. They lost their way in the middle but late flurry from Tanbir Hayder, who struck 31 off 15 deliveries and Nurul Hasan (33 off 27) got them to 157 for seven with Farhad Reza bagging three wickets for Doleshwar.
In reply, Doleshwar started promisingly with a 62-run opening partnership before opener Mohammad Arafat retired hurt with a 23-balll 33. Wickets started to fall in regular intervals as the task at hand became more difficult. Captain Farhad Reza revived some hope with a cameo 20-ball 45 with two fours and five sixes. He fell in the last-over as Sheikh Jamal won the match by 24 runs with Shahidul Islam picking up four wickets.
