Salma ‘delighted’ to represent Bangladesh in UAE T20
Bangladesh women's team stars Salma Khatun and Jahanara Alam are set to feature in the upcoming Women's T20 League in UAE, slated to take place between November 4 and 9.
The franchise tournament, arranged by the BCCI, is set to feature players from Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, England and the West Indies with India stars Mithali Raj, Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana leading the three sides in the T20 Challenge.
While pacer Jahanara had previously featured in the tournament, veteran all-rounder Salma was glad to have the opportunity to represent her country in the franchise tournament for the first time.
"It's a very good feeling. Before, only Jahanara had played there and this time my name is also there so definitely it's a good feeling. Since this is my first opportunity, I will try to give my best and that's my target," Salma, who had led Bangladesh during their Asia Cup triumph in 2018, said.
Currently ranked eighth in the T20 all-rounders' rankings, Salma was looking forward to representing Bangladesh in what was an unique international opportunity and she wanted to contribute.
"Wherever I get the chance, whether with the bat or the ball, I will want to do something for the team. Since I am a representative of my country, I want to perform," she said.
However, she reiterated that her off-spinners will be her primary focus. "Actually, bowling will be prioritized and I want to put more focus on it.," said the off-spinner with the most wickets for Bangladesh in theT20 World Cup this year.
She informed that preparations are ongoing. "I started working at home during the lockdown before also getting the opportunity to start practicing in the field at Khulna Stadium. Not sure if it will be easy to overcome the five-month long gap but I have been able to do quite a lot, so hoping to resolve any issues within the next few days," she said.
All the three teams in Trailblazers, Velocity and Supernovas will all play in the Sharjah Cricket Stadium but will stay in Dubai throughout the tournament in a bio-secure bubble.
