Paratrooper show cancelled for safety reasons

The historic pink ball Test between Bangladesh and India will begin at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata today. With the toss scheduled for 12:30 pm local time (1:00 pm BD time), the players of both the teams are already out their practising ahead of their maiden pink ball Test.

As a part of many arrangements, the paratroopers were supposed to come down from the planes to hand over the pink balls to the Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee and the captains of the two sides at the start of the game. However, Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) informed that the paratroopers show has been cancelled at the last moment due to security issues.

Bangladesh and India are gearing for the pink ball challenge with the match set to take place at 1:00 pm local time. A myriad of arrangements have been made to mark the occasion and one of the spectacle planned for the first day was the handing over of the balls by the paratrooper squad to the captains of both sides. The wind angle and speed would have made the landing difficult and thus it was cancelled due to safety issues.
