Hope Shakib can join with the team in Sri Lanka: Nazmul
Bangladesh premier all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan can join the national team in their tour of Sri Lanka starting next month, hinted Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hassan today.
Shakib has been serving a ban, imposed by the ICC last year in October for the all-rounder's failure in reporting corrupt approaches on three occasions. The premier all-rounder's ban is set to come to an end on October 29.
And as Bangladesh's three-Test series against Sri Lanka is scheduled to start from October 24, there has been discussion regarding involving Shakib in the tour for a while now. Nazmul today informed that regardless of Shakib's fitness issue, the 33-year-old will be included in Bangladesh's tour of Sri Lanka after his ban comes to an end.
"I won't mention what I had discussed with Shakib. But as soon as his ban is over, he will join the national team," hinted Nazmul.
Shakib, who is now at the United States with his family, is expected to return to the country this month and start practicing on his own. Nazmul however mentioned that the premier all-rounder will not be involved in any activities with the BCB before October 29.
"We are all eagerly waiting for him to return [to the country]. But there is an issue regarding his fitness and preparation. That's why he will practice on his own. Hope that he will be fit and join us [the national team] in Sri Lanka. However, he will not be involved with any of the BCB's activities until his ban ends," informed Nazmul.
Bangladesh national team will practice for about 10-12 days in the country in mid-September before leaving for Sri Lanka with the HP team on a tentative date of September 23.
