BCB to reconsider Shakib’s NOC for IPL
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Cricket Operations Committee chairman Akram Khan today told the media that the board will reconsider Shakib Al Hasan's NOC (No Objection Certificate) for playing in the upcoming IPL after the latter said during an interview yesterday that he never wrote in his letter to the BCB that he did not want to play Test cricket.
Shakib was in a live interview with Cricfrenzy where he said that Akram had misinterpreted his letter seeking leave to play in the IPL.
The all-rounder had said his skipping the Tests and playing in the IPL is part of his plan for World T20 and not due to any indifference to Test cricket.
"I think Akram Bhai [Akram Khan] did not read my letter properly. Akram Bhai has repeatedly said that I didn't want to play Tests, which is not mentioned anywhere in my letter," Shakib had said.
"What I've heard is that he sent me a letter and I didn't read it. Since I misinterpreted it, so I will discuss it with the board tomorrow or day after and reconsider his NOC [for IPL]. If he has interest in Test cricket then he will play. Regarding the other things he said, we will watch it before the board takes any decision," Akram told reporters today following a meeting at BCB president's residence.
Shakib during his interview yesterday had brought into question the role played by the BCB management in the national team's failures while also criticising BCB's scheduling of the home series against Sri Lanka, which is set to take place from April 9 to May 28.
"No other cricket board holds international matches during the IPL," he said. "Only we are playing against Sri Lanka. Do you ever see any Afghanistan cricketer playing for their country during the IPL? Their board makes sure the players are free to play in the IPL. If we don't value our own players, how can you expect us to perform well when playing for Bangladesh?"
"We have a number of people in the cricket board who have played for Bangladesh, but apart from (Khaled Mahmud) Sujon bhai, they are not too involved. Sujon bhai and (Nazmul Hassan) Papon bhai must be credited for the 2019 Under-19 World Cup win. But I can't find any more people from the board to give credit. I don't think they think much about cricket," Shakib said.
