Bangladesh Tests a ‘special feeling’ for Roach
West Indies paceman Kemar Roach agreed that a Test match against Bangladesh gave him a 'special feeling' and reminded that the Windies pace battery can still cause problems to the likes of Tamim Iqbal, Shakib Al Hasan and Co.
The Windies outfit is relatively inexperienced as a number of high-profile stars, including Test skipper Jason Holder, opted to sit out from the tour of Bangladesh. However, Roach, who has taken 33 wickets against Bangladesh in just eight Tests, reiterated that the pacers have a job to do and if successful, will help the team execute their plans.
"We have a job to do, me and Sharon [Gabriel]. Alzarri [Joseph] as well," Roach said.
"The spinners will obviously do bulk of the work but I think once we do what we are best at, which is taking wickets, it will help the team and the bowling unit. If we can do that, we can obviously execute our plans better. We have been planning well and having conversations with the bowling coach so we know what we want to do. Things are in motion and we're looking forward to the series."
Roach had made his Test debut during a match against Bangladesh back in 2009. He has always been a threat to the Tigers' batsmen and asked if there was a special feeling working for him while playing Bangladesh, he replied: "Yeah, that's where it started, obviously back home. I have played against them a couple of times, both ODIs and Tests. There has always been a good fight and they are a mentally tough team. They try very hard to do the right thing. It's all about us, going there as a team and just put our best foot forward. We have to focus on what we do, execute our plans and play Test cricket as hard as we can," Roach said.
The Tigers will take on West Indies in the first of the three-match ODI series on January 20. Following the conclusion of the ODI series on January 25, West Indies will face Bangladesh in the first Test at Chattogram on February 3.
