Sri Lanka beat Bangladesh in semis
Sri Lanka defeated Bangladesh by four wickets in the semifinal of the ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup at the R.Premadasa Stadium in Sri Lanka today.
Bangladesh's total of 237 had looked small but it proved to be a competitive total despite a breezy start from Sri Lanka. Opener Sandun Weerakkody hit a 37-ball 47 at the top but came back into the match with a few quick wickets. 20-year old Kamindu Mendis however ensured that the Lankans made it to the final with an unbeaten 88-ball 91 innings, consisting of nine fours as Sri Lanka reached the required target with 10 deliveries and 4 wickets to spare. Shoriful Islam bagged two wickets for 50 for Bangladesh U-23.
Earlier, Bangladesh lost a few early wickets with Zakir Hossain and Nazmul Hossain Shanto both falling to Chamika Karunaratne inside the 8th over. Nurul Hasan left a few overs later before a 65-run fourth-wicket stand between Mizanur Rahman, who struck (72) and Mosaddek Hossain took Bangladesh past 100.
Mossaddek fell for 39 but Yasir Ali took over, hitting a busy 72-ball 66 laced with three fours and a six.
Mizanur fell to a run-out in the 38th over and Bangladesh lost their wickets quickly after that with Karunaratne bagging four. Bangladesh were eventually bowled out in 49.1 overs.
Bangladesh: 237 all out (Mizanur 72, Yasir 66, Mosaddek 39, Karunaratne 4/31)
